Pearl
is a two-month-old opal platinum Campbells Russian dwarf
hamster. We almost didn't see Pearl. Looking in the pet shop tank, we
saw an adult dwarf standing on something, trying to get our attention.
That "something" was a tiny, terrified, baby hamster. She
was rolled on her back, playing dead. I shooed the big guy away and
picked her up, still lifeless looking. I held her to my chest, where
she sprang to life, climbed up to my shoulder, and chirped in my ear.
She was a brave little girl as I tended to her bite wounds over the
next few days, and soon she was fully recovered. Pearl
"talks" in squeaks and still climbs my shoulder to chirp in
my ear. She's one of my happiest, busiest (and noisiest!) hammies, and
we were most blessed to find her.
