This
is Biskit, our friendly little Parakeet! He is a very welcome
addition to our family, and we get along with him very well. When we
first went to the pet store to look for a parakeet, we looked in the
parakeet window, and he came running up to us! It is like he chose
us! We took him home because we could see he would get used to us. Now
he likes to bother Molly, the family Australian Shepherd, and he
really has a great vocabulary. He likes to say his name, and he either
chirps when we sneeze, or he says "Bless you" in his own
cute little voice. His chirps sound like "Bloop!"
At dinner, he has his own little routine. First, he dings his little
bell at the back of his cage, then slides down the side bars to his
seed cup perch, he eats for a while, then fluffs up and rests and
digests his food. Finally, as we are just finishing dinner, he gets
all worked up and 'gets stuck' in his ladder to trick us into thinking
he is really stuck so we will get up, open his cage, and then he can
get up real quickly and sneak out! He is very sneaky.
He likes to eat pickles, lettuce, spinach, shredded American cheese or
Monterey Jack or Cheddar cheese, celery, corn kernels, and tuna. He
likes to look at himself in the mirror. He thinks it is another bird
friend. He gets along with the family dog, Molly, and he talks to her
feet. When ever she walks into the room, he starts to talk to her
("Biskit baby!" and "Bloop!"). He also loves to
talk to various objects: flowers, mirrors, tables, glass, his own
shadow,other shiny surfaces, walls,and other round objects about the
size of his head that stick up about his height. He is a fantastic
addition to our family, and we hope he is with us a very long time!
