This
is Rocky and he is a Bosc or better known as a Savannah Monitor
Lizard. He kind is from the savannah grasslands of Africa. I purchased
him a year ago when he was only six inches long from the tip of
his snout to the tip of his tail. In a little over a year he has grown
considerably and is currently measuring 30 inches and still growing. I
refer to him as he because I believe he is a male, but I am not 100%
sure.
I have always owned different species of lizards and have always
wanted a Savannah monitor, but was a bit afraid because of their large
adult size. It has turned out great because he is more placid than
most of my other lizards. He is extremely easy to take care of because
he has a great appetite and eats almost anything with meat in it. He
is potty trained so cleaning up after him is also very simple. He
either uses his large water bowl or he waits for me to give him the
run of the yard in order to go. He loves to hang out in the back yard
and loves to dig around in the soil. I am currently building him what
I hope will be the last enclosure he will live the rest of his life in
because he has already outgrown two others. I am going to build this
one extremely big just in case. I hope to have him for a very long
time.
