Tango
has always been a special bird, he loves to give kisses and ride
on your shoulder go for walks, and drives in the car. Tango recently
had a near death experience with a ferret. He flew down from his cage
and attacked the ferret, by the time my husband ran down to get him he
was in shock and lifeless. The ferret had him back the neck and had
shook him furiously from side to side trying to break his neck. Tango
lay limp on the floor barely breathing neck limp and we thought his
neck was broken and that was the end. A call to the vet and a half an
hour later Tango was clutching still weakly and eyes still closed to
my husband. The vet said the next 24 hours were crucial and made an
appointment to see him.
By morning Tango was chirping and acting his old self again, and the
vet examined him and said he had a bruise that covered the whole left
side of his face. And put him on antibiotics in case the teeth
penetrated to avoid septic shock. Tango is fine now but still hates
ferrets and tries to attack them whenever possible so he must be
monitored at all times when out of his cage. We were very
lucky Tango made it through this and urge everyone who has other
animals with their parrots to please please please supervise
them every minute. We learned the hard way that it only takes a moment
for a tragedy to occur. Tango is fine and back to his old self. He
loves to ride on my model horses.
