Peevie
is a male, named for one of F. Scott Fitzgerald's friends
(Edmund) Peevie Parrot. He was a gift from a friend, who bought him at a
parrot store in Mattapoisette, Massachusetts. He is a very obedient,
well behaved and fairly quiet bird who likes to watch movies and listen
to classical music, or whatever I happen to be doing, except the noise
of dishes washing or water running. He rarely uses the bathroom in his
cage anymore, I taught him to use the toilet, or he goes on the shelf
above my desk where he usually likes to sit on a perch made of
Pollylogs. He likes to sit on my shoulder and massage my ear and cuddle
against my hair. He can speak a few words, like "hello,"
"what do you want?" and his name, and frequently speaks
phrases in Conure language, which sound like words but aren't, as well
as a number of funny noises and jungle sounds. My friend who gave me the
parrot has a Hans Macaw, but wishes she had gotten a Conure because of
their pleasant dispositions. I think Green Cheeks are highly
under-rated, they are beautiful with exquisite coloring, sweet and
adorable birds, and extremely intelligent, he had learned all commands
in only one or two lessons.
