About Us
Jerry (Chato) and Lucy, the Pets of the Day
Name: Jerry, Lucy
Age: Five months old
Gender: Unknown
Kind: Argentine Tortoises
Home: Juan Lacaze, Colonia, Uruguay

Jerry (Chato), at the time of the picture, measures: Length: 48mm, Width: 44mm, Height: 26mm It's darker than its younger sibling. It's nickname is "Chato" ("Flat" in English) Lucy measures: Length: 44mm Wide: 43mm height: 25mm They are Argentine tortoises, (Tortuga de tierra Argentina) the scientific name is Geochelone Chilensis. The scale is in centimeters (one centimeter per square). They live at my parents' home.

Jerry is in the normal position, Lucy appears front, side and bottom up (because the yoke sac is more visible on it). They are very special because it is extremely strange that these tortoises could reproduce in captivity. My parents have had the tortoises' parents, Pepe (male) and Carolina (female), for 12 or 15 years, and this year the little babies appeared. We did nothing to help it, they were born in a 100% natural way. We knew that the tortoise was laying eggs, but we had no idea of the existence of these ones. This springtime and summer happened something uncommon in my country, it didn't rain for six months. Perhaps that caused that the sand to be especially dry (and maybe warm); probably it caused the births! We are enjoying watching them grow.
