There
are many things about Huey that make him special:
- He's completely adorable, which you can see from the picture.
- He recently had to under-go major life-threatening surgery but never lost his terrific attitude.
- He's extremely smart. Sometimes I even catch him reading the newspapers that line his drop tray.
- He has an excellent sense of smell. He can smell a raisin about 50' away (raisins are his treats).
Huey lives with his girlfriend Celeste and another girl named Cecily. We
believe that Celeste is pregnant which means Huey will soon be a daddy!
When they sleep, they like to pig-pile on top of one another which my
girlfriend and I call a "cuddle-puddle." Huey's favorite treats are
raisins, apple and dry pasta. I've seen Huey jump approximately 3-1/2
feet straight up in the air.
Although it seems to be normal trait in chinchillas, Huey is a master of
"the ricochet"... where he runs towards a wall and jumps so all four of
his feet touch the wall and he bounces off. In a small nook in our
apartment, we've seen him bounce off of three walls without his feet
touching the ground. Huey (as well as Cecily and Celeste) are stars of
their own mini-series.
Huey is a mama's-boy... he is much more affectionate with my girlfriend.
He doesn't like being caught but once you catch him, he doesn't mind
being held. He is an explorer... always trying to go places he's never
seen and probably shouldn't see. He clips into my closet underneath the
closet door (approx 1" space) and plays in my shoes. Also, if I sit on
the floor, he likes to climb up on my shoulder or even on top of my head
to see what he can see.
