This
is Baracus, our seven-year-old African Grey. We adopted him when
he was a year old because his owner was allergic to feathers. I, on
the other hand, am allergic to almost anything with fur. I dearly
love animals, so I was more than happy to take in a friend of the
feathered variety! Baracus talks all the time and is an avid Chicago
Bears fan. He cheers right along with his dad and the TV every chance
he gets, with a hearty "Woo! Woo!" and even a clapping
sound. One of the neatest things about him is that he can duplicate a
person's tone of voice when he talks. If my husband answers the
phone, Baracus will say "Hello?" in his voice. If I answer
the phone, he says it in mine. I often get mixed up when I hear
someone calling my name at home. I'll answer, thinking it's my
husband calling for me, but it's often the bird. He makes us laugh
constantly and I couldn't imagine our home without him, which is a
good thing because his life span is over 60 years!
