||Fourteen years old|
||Blue Streaked Lory|
||Portland, Oregon, USA|
was given to a lady of who couldn't take care of Sparky's needs.
He does not eat seed but is a nectar and fruit eater which can be very,
very messy. I was able to take possession of Sparky about nine years ago
and have never regretted it. His vocabulary is extensive; from
"gimmee a kiss" [his favorite] to telling one of the other birds to
knock it off if the bird gets too noisy. His antics can bring a ray of
sunshine on a cloudy day and tell you, "It's O.K." when you
cry. After years of trying to find out an average age of a pet Blue
Streak I have still not found someone who knows, for since Blue Streaks
are on the endangered list, most of them are in breeding situations
which is a bit different. A lady said she thought they lived about
fifteen years. I do hope she is wrong for when Sparky leave this world
to the jungle where he belongs, there will be a very big hole in this
earth where I live.
