When
I found Cody, he was two months old and sick. His mother was
nowhere to be found so I took him in. He is a gentle, 2,700 pound pet
who thinks he's a horse. I have kept him in a pen in between two horses
so he has a well developed sense of humor, anything you put in the
corrals next to him as a toy for the other horses, it will end up in his
pen somehow. Everyday when I come to see him, he greets me with a big
smile and a run to the gait where he eats out of my hand and receives a
scratch behind his ears.
In the evening I have to let him out into the field with the horses to
graze. He is very smart and knows how to shake, sit and stay which is
pretty good for a wild animal. At night I take him out of his pen with a
lead rope and walk him half way up a mountain to give him the exercise
he needs. And right before I put him away, I give him a nice warm or
cold bath depending on the weather followed by a good brush down and
late night snack. Because he is loaded with fur and living in the
desert, I keep two fans in his indoor pen and I made sure there is
always a shade tree in outdoor pen for him to keep cool.
