Home: Moncton, New Brunswick, Canada

Merry Ho Ho from baby Ziggy!! This photo was taken many years ago when Ziggy was just the size of my thumb! Back then her favorite spot was hiding in my hair. Today, only his huge paw can fit on my head, as she stretches 4 feet long and weighs in at nine pounds. I made sure that she would reach her optimum size by providing her with large living quarters and a diet that was high in protein and calcium. And since we live in a rather cold climate for 6 months of the year... Ziggy has both a basking lamp and a full spectrum light on for fourteen hour every day. In the summer months though, she is outside with her partner Kiwi (a five-year-old male) in an 8 foot by 4 foot enclosure. Their pad also includes a 4 foot swimming pool! Dandelion greens are their favorite summer snack and in winter they prefer collard greens. They also get lots of other veggies, but for a real treat...I make them a chicken fajita. They resemble miniature dinosaurs during a feeding frenzy. The are very comical to watch, mostly because they are so clumsy when they are not in their natural habitat. Many books would like me to believe that iguanas are very stupid creatures with a poorly developed nervous system. Well. all I know is that these two of mine know their names, come when called, love attention, display jealousy, have great memories, and feel pain. And with a life span of about eighteen years... I get to love them for another thirteen!
