Mustard
is my Albino Horned Frog, he was purchased on February 14,
1998 and was born in October the previous year. Mustard is special
because he dispels the reputation these frogs have for being ravenous
and violent and biting their owners. He is extremely tame and very
shy, actually he is quite the whip and only would eat mice if they
were swung at him and bonked him on the nose. He really, really has
to be agitated and starved to be provoked to bite and even so, he
usually burrows away and hides when threatened. I submitted Mustard,
as a candidate, because I saw that another albino horned frog was
nominated, but mine has that mild manner that no other frog seems to
have.
Albino horned frogs used to be rare but are now becoming very popular
by breeders and herpetologists. There is a very interesting story on
how I ended up buying him, but intrinsically, I always likes frogs
and toads. They are possibly my favorite animal in the whole world. I
have had pet frogs and toads in the past but have always let them go
back in the world after a few weeks of play. But not too many people
have seen a frog of this hue and breed...nor have I, so I purchased
him. He eats feeder fish and worms, and of course mice. He was my
mascot during my second semester during my most grueling graduating
year at Sheridan College of Graphic Design. His most unique croaking
was recognized and admired during power naps to pushing me through
the days. In fact you might say he wakes me when I need to get back
on the work horse. I could go on and on about him, but he, and his
co-terrarium neighbor, Morphine, will have a site dedicated to them
to be finished this summer, so be on the look out!
