I guess
you really can't call Toki, a gray squirrel, a pet, although
she is full of love and affection. She is a wild animal. But she
deserves to be seen. We are animal rehabilitators and Tokusho
("Precious" in Japanese), an orphan, was brought to us on
May 7 when she was about five weeks old. She is now spending her
days out in the trees - learning her world - but comes back
to her "nest" - a warm, cozy den on our screened-in
deck, with plenty of food and water , when she feels she needs a bit
of security. Her visits will become less frequent until, one day
soon, she will visit "home" for the last time. We will
always love and miss her. Squirrels deserve to be wild and free and
should never be kept in captivity. This is one of her latest
pictures - and probably one of her last, so I made it a bit
special.
