Nightcrawler, the Pet of the Day
Name: Nightcrawler
Age: Three years old
Gender: Female
Kind: Opossum
Home: Virginia, USA

I have a pet opossum. I've had her for over three years now. Her name is Nightcrawler. What makes my possum so special is what I've learned from her. I got her when she was a newborn. She lived in our house for about six months, then I made her a big house to stay in outside. When I tell people about her they ask "Doesn't she bite, hiss, drool, or play dead?" She does none of these things. These must be traits that are learned from their mother. Since I raised her, she didn't learn these traits.

She is very smart. When she was younger she use to use the cats' litterbox and I never taught her this. She doesn't pay the litterbox much attention these days. The cats don't mind her too much when I bring her in on some weekends on really cold nights. She remembers things well to. I kept her in our back bedroom when she was little and when I bring her in that's the first place she will head to and the only place in the house she will sleep. She's not very nocturnal at all. If she hears noises or is hungry, she will get up in the middle of the day to see what's going on. She's not too playful but she did eat the cats' catnip toy once. She will eat most anything but if it's rotten or bad she won't touch it. She likes cat food, chocolate, chicken, corn chips and corn. I like my possum because she's different. My wife likes her too.
