This
is Wilhelmina. She is a Black Dalmatian (variety), Teddy
(breed), Guinea Pig. In these photos she is four months old. She was
my Valentines Day present from my husband. Dalmatian guinea
pigs...they do come in all the coat types, but some are more common
than others. The smooth coated "American" pigs are the most
common in dals (and very handsome). Teddies, which Willa is, are
apparently rare. I say this as I am having a difficult time finding a
second one : ). Willa isn't truly "show quality" but she is "breeder
quality."
Generally Guinea Pigs are good pets, each having their own
personality. Willa is quite different from my last four piggies.
Perhaps because she is an only pig she has invented a game to play
with my two young cats. They like to watch her waddle around the cage
and eat her supper. After supper Willa usually feels pretty spunky
and once she has an audience she lets loose. She starts by doing laps
around her cage, lightening fast. Rushing here and there. This
certainly gets the cats' attention. When they come and press their
faces to the cage to look in Willa will stop, place her front paws on
the bars of the cage and sniff noses with one of them and then dash
off, squeaking excitedly. On the next pass she will sniff the second
cat's nose and once again dash of squealing. The cats are absolutely
mesmerized by all this activity. The game continues until Willa is
tired out and retires for a nap. Eventually the cats get bored and
wander off to find some more excitement.
