was a Xmas present two years ago - she was three years old then
and might live to as old as 30! She's a Chilean Rose Hair Tarantula
and is one of the more docile of the species. In the bright light she
is a brilliant rose color. Her diet consists of live crickets - as
many as eight a week. She sometimes stalks them and I've seen her on a
"hunt" where she just pursued one till she got it. She molted about
three months ago - we found her lying on her back one morning and
when we got home from work she was next to her old "skin".
Most people are not sure how to take her but end up being fascinated.
Tarantulas are not much more poisonous than a bee and like most
animals will defend themselves but not just attack - like in the
movies. Size wise, when she spreads herself out, she covers about a 4
1/2 to 5 inch circle.
She is a low maintenance pet, for sure. Doesn't bark or need to be
walked - and other than the chirping of her food at times is pretty
quiet.
