Fred
is very special to me! I brought him home at age 6 weeks from a ferret
ranch. He was so tiny (maybe 4") Now he weighs 3 lbs. and is 17" (not
including his tail! He is past his life span (which is only 5 to 7 yrs.)
at 7 1/2 yrs. So he is really considered quite elderly. He lives in a
large, multi-tiered cage & runs about the house when I get home. He
greets me with a kiss each night!
Fred is delightful! He hides my socks & underwear as a game! his favorite
toy is a plastic pipe, (ferrets love tunnels). He walks with me in our
huge backyard, where there are lots of rabbit holes. Last year he
flushed a rabbit from the bushes. Boy, was he surprised! But that rabbit
ran a whole lot faster than Fred can! He also tries to chase the
squirrels, but of course catches nothing! When Fred's eyesight was
better he would spot a car going by & want to chase that! Ferrets are
afraid of nothing! He is quite social & will greet guests by sniffing
their feet.
This year began sadly, Fred was diagnosed with renal failure. But more
than a month ago Fred began to rally! So each day is a gift! He is
taking walks with me again and he so enjoys smelling the wonderful
scents in the air as he is doing in this photograph. I love him so.
