This
is Mr. Grey. He was born in April 1996. Unfortunately, he and
his brother and sister were born in the wild and had to live out of
dumpsters for the first few months of their lives. As soon as I saw
Mr. Grey and his family near my home, I took immediate interest. I
spent hours trying to pet them and feeding them warm milk. Since
these cats were wild, though, they were very scared of humans with
one exception. Mr. Grey would run to see me, with a slight limp (he
was the runt) and tail straight up in the air. He cuddled up on my
lap while I sat outside being eaten alive by the mosquitos.
When my family decided to move that summer, my dad thought it would be best
for Mr. Grey to come live with us. Some of our neighbors followed
our lead and took Mr. Grey's brother and sister. One neighbor even
had his mother fixed so that no more kittens would have to live out
of garbage cans. Almost two years later, Mr. Grey is a happy,
13-pound cat living the good life indoors. He sleeps on my bed when I
am away at college because he misses me so much. And I miss him too.
Whenever my parents come to school to visit me, Mr. Grey takes a
ride in the car to come see me. I love him very much and I would
really like to share his story with pet lovers all over the world.
