Munchkin is extra special for many reasons. First, she was a stray dog that
was hit by a car and left to die on the side of the road when she was less than
a year old. She was picked up by an animal shelter that I used to work at. After
x-rays, we discovered that she had a broken back. She was so full of life, however,
no one could put her to sleep. She seemed to adapt more and more to her handicap.
Actually, I think Munchie doesn't realize she has a handicap at all.
This very spectacular dog has learned to walk with her wheels, and also she
gets along by scooting. She wears diapers, because she doesn't have control
of her bladder, and she will actually come over to her "changing area" to have
her diaper changed.
Munchkin had inspired everyone who has ever met her, so much so that we
started to take her to nursing homes. She has been such terrific therapy for
them! People who haven't talked in years have started talking again because
of Munchie's inspiration.
She brings such love and energy with her. She has been able to inspire us
with her love for life, and she has showed to us how important it is to never
give up.
