Peaches
came into our lives at age nine weeks to be my companion after
my retirement but my husband fell in love with her and took her
everywhere he went leaving me alone again in my retirement. Several
years later we both had to adjust to the loss of my husband and her
best buddy. Now she became my constant companion and helped me through
a very difficult period.
Peaches has traveled in trucks, boats, a special car seat, a basket
in a van and never seemed upset or nervous no matter where she was.
She loves to ride in the child's seat of a shopping cart in the local
department store (nobody has ever complained) and people keep
mistaking her for a stuffed toy.
One of her favorite resting spots is the arm of the couch with her
head resting on a stuffed toy, a picture to behold. From this
position this allows her to watch all activities out the front window
plus watching for my arrival on the rare occasions she isn't with me.
Peaches has a wealth of stuffed toys which usually sit idle, only
occasionally does she have enough energy to pick up a toy and give it
a few shakes. I found out early that if I wanted to throw a ball
that I would be the one to retrieve it. Peaches was too smart to
waste time chasing balls.
At 9 p.m. and 11 p.m. she wakes up out of a sound sleep and demands
her nightly treat of a dog biscuit. Then it's off to bed where she
has her own set of stairs to get up on our bed where she settles down
on her satin covered pillow.
Peaches is not barky at all, in fact very quiet and extremely low
keyed. She has recently developed diabetes. She is on two injections
of insulin each day and so far seems to be doing fine although it
took quite awhile to get her regulated. My last poodle was just the
opposite of Peaches, ripping and raring to go and constantly wanting
you to throw a tennis ball. Peaches could care less and never in her
life has chased any balls. She does occasionally shake a soft toy
but that's about the extent of her play time.
