Little, the Pet of the Day
Name: Little
Age: 13 years old
Gender: Female
Kind: Terrier mix
Home: Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, USA

I have owned Little for all 13 years of her life, adopting her from an animal shelter here in Pittsburgh soon after she was born. She was the last of her litter remaining at the shelter; she was the runt, and battled through a bout with parvo soon after I brought her home-- she is a survivor in all ways, but more on that in a minute!

In the picture, Little is underneath the Christmas tree, clutching her "Duckie," from whom she is inseparable. It is appropriate that she is under the Christmas tree, because her presence this holiday season is the most wonderful gift I could ask for! In summer of 1996, Little was diagnosed with inoperable cancer and heart problems. The vet told me to prepare myself for the inevitable, which he estimated at one to three months. A year and a half later, thanks to medication, love, and her survivor's attitude, Little is still comfortable, playful, and here with me to celebrate Christmas this year! I put up the tree especially early this year so that she could enjoy it. She likes to chase the train around the tracks and bark at the moving angel atop the tree. My little miracle dog is tremendously generous with her affection, and has been the most wonderful, loyal friend I could ever ask for.
