About Us
Petunia, the Pet of the Day
Name: Petunia
Age: Four and a half months old
Gender: Female
Kind: African Pygmy Hedgehog
Home: Northbrook, Illinois, USA

This is my pet hedgehog, Petunia. She is a very nice hedgehog, and loves to be handled. She also loves to eat. Her favorite food is whipped cream, and then probably pecans. She likes to play hide and go seek with me, and it is not always easy to find her! She is very funny, because she makes little grunting noises that sound like a piglet. I have only had her for three months, but I love her dearly. She has be-friended my cat in the short time she was with us!

Most people think that hedgies are a bad pet, mainly because of their shyness and spikes. But as soon as they start to get to know you, they are very good pets! Petunia loves to be held, and she, like most hedgehogs, lays her spikes done flat when I hold her! I do think she needs to gain a little weight though, because she is underweight by hedgehog standards. I hope to have her for ten years, because they can live that long. I do not, however, suggest that anyone under the age of eleven purchase one of these critters, because it takes a lot of time, money, and commitment to keep these. To me, though, it is all worth it.

A lot of people ask "Why a hedgehog?" Well, when you see these little guys, you fall in love with them right away. Also, I like to have unusual pets, and hedgehogs are very unusual! Hedgies are definitely the pet for me!
