Nunu
is a very good friend of mine. I met her about 2 1/2 years ago at
the Helen Woodward Animal Center. She'd been there for about 6 months,
after her third set of people had given her up - this time due to
allergies. She was snoozing in her cage, but looked up when I came in the
room. I let her out of the cage, and she seemed very calm around
strangers. So calm, in fact, that I picked her up and set her on my lap -
and she laid down immediately and soon began to purr as I scratched
around her ears.
A few days later, I took her home. Although she doesn't like car rides, in
general, she seemed to know that she was going home, and was very mellow
on the way. She took no time adjusting to the new pad.
She is very dog-like, in many ways. She comes when you call (so if you
call, you had better mean it!) She is extremely people-oriented; she hates
being alone, and will always be in the room where the people are. She is
fascinated by water, and wants to lick you dry after you've showered, then
putter around in the damp shower herself. She likes to lick - especially
my face - and let me tell you, that raspy feline tongue of hers is so
rough it almost hurts, but she is so earnest about it that I let her do it
sometimes anyway.
Lately she has taken to sleeping in bed like a person: on her side, under
the covers, with her head on the pillow next to mine. It's very funny to
wake up and see the back of a cat head.
She's a special kitty and I always look forward to seeing her when I get
home from work.
