    Camel Farm

Yesterday I was showing some visitors from SF around Bahrain, and we went to the Camel Farm a few Kms from my house...

We were in the enclosure with the females, juveniles and babies, as they are very tame and calm. The male camels are much more agressive, so are kept in a separate enclosure and are hobbled (roped around their front legs) so they can't run too fast.

This friendly lady followed us around, and absolutely LOVED scritchies, as well as having her photo taken!

One day old baby with Mommy. He was trying hard to stand up, but his wobbly little legs would not work properly!

Three day-old baby with Mommy - still not too sure of his footing, but determined to stay close to Mommy when she went out to feed with the rest of the herd.

These ones were around 6 to 7 months old, and were SO friendly.

The awesome thing about the farm is that it is a fully-functional farm and is not the least bit commercialised, but visitors are welcome, so you get to go right in and interact with the camels. It was an amazing experience.

SO..... who is coming to visit us here in Bahrain???

Thanks Kay for my great sig & avatar!!!

    Actually, I'd love to visit.
My husband was sent to Bahrain many times when he was stationed in Italy.
We were not together at the time or I would have probably gone with him at least once. He always spoke highly of the time he spent there.
    Are you stationed there?

Oh these baby camels are just too sweet.
Pet Talk really attacks your travel budget! Of course I'd love to come to Bahrain but how- if I ahven't been to Denmark, Scotland, Moldova and the BBQ yet

Lut - Camels are not kept as pets here, but the Camel farm in the pictures is owned by a Shaikh (the uncle of Bahrain's king) and he allows it to remain open to the public!

King2005 - Bahrain is a TINY Island just next to Saudi Arabia in the Middle East

Beeniesmom - we are here due to my hubby's job (he works in Saudi and commutes daily), but he is not military.

Barbara - you will just have to try harder to win the lottery so you can embark on a PT world tour!!!

Thanks Kay for my great sig & avatar!!!
