Hello! Welcome to Pet Talk! I'm so glad you joined us here! I'm sure you're already addictd.
I'm guessing that you adorable Missy is probably part German Shepherd Dog.
Kaitlyn (the human)
Sadie & Rita (Forever in Our Hearts) (the Labbies)
She's really small though (maybe can't see due to pic). She's about 10-15 lbs. (I thought shepard too, but how can a mix of that end up so small? Is it possible?). She's a year old, give or take.
On a different note, I had a female lab when I was growing up named Sadie May.
Labs are my usual favorite, but when I went to the shelter Missy smiled at me and tried to grab my hand and drag me to the door. Now her and my youngest daughter are inseperable. They are both full of energy so it's a perfect match.
We are thinking that she has some kind of collie mix though. Her ears and face shape look so collie-ish.
Yes I am very hooked already. Thank you for the welcome.

Your Missy is a hard one to peg. No real distinctive breed traits. Shephard of some sort. Maybe Collie (if you see it). Her coat looks to be a pretty red, but photos can fool. Maybe with a better picture (head shot) you might stir more thoughts, but right now Missy looks like a classic beautiful (Heinz 57 Varietys) mix!!!
I think she is a Sheltie mix. The black shading on her tail is seen in a lot of Sheltie mixes as well as Collie and Shepherd mixes. The other half is probably some sort of Terrier or Italian Greyhound.
well there could be some sheppard in her.
Ive been beagle sheppard mixs that were small.
Maybe shes like a sheltie/beagel mix?
I have a border collie terrier mix, and you would think with her dad being a BC she would be bigger.. NOPE.. 20 pounds at most.

I agree... sheltie/beagle could be it. Does her bark sound like a beagle? Definatly looks like some sheltie in there... She's got the cutest little face!!Originally Posted by Sadie_Sasha
My friend has a cocker spaniel/german shepered mix and it is about 20 pounds... so there could be sheperd in her, too.

Her bark is very high pitched. She really sounds like an ankle biter!!!! I can see the sheltie in her. Not so much the beagle though. . . unless there are red beagles lol. Like I said the only breed I know a lot about are labs. Thank you guys for your continuing help. I know it's probably lame to go nuts trying to figure out what kind of breed she is, because I am already attached to her. . . . But it's making me NUTS!!! Do shelties or beagles have the tendency to run off the minute the leash is dropped? She's really bad about that, and roamed off for 6 hours the other day.
Breeds in which yellow-to-red dogs of the "ee" genotype have been detected:
Brittany Spaniel
Clumber Spaniel
Cocker Spaniel
Dachshund
English Setter
Flatcoated Retriever
Golden Retriever
Irish Setter
Labrador Retriever
Miniature Poodle
Portuguese Water Dog
Vizsla
your dog could be part one of these
another dog that carries the ee allele is a "Rat Terrier". Also of note is the Rat Terrier's ears (similar to yours) and small size. Check out this site to see a red one...

...but, with that image in mind, Missy could be Sheltie/Rat Terrier, although, Shepherd was my first thought.
Yeah, about any dog that is not properly obedience trained will take off like a shot. They're silly and think that things HAVE to be more interesting elsewhere. I highly recommend getting her into an obedience class as soon as you can. Just to keep her from running off without you having any "grip" on her.
She's adorable!
Christi
she probably has a finnish spitz blood in her which explains her colour
