My male dog was 8 months old when we got him and he lifted his leg since day one.

Some male dogs NEVER lift their legs, which there is nothing wrong with that.

Some males don't. I know Buster does that and it's perfectly normal.

My Cairn, Murph was lifting his leg by 6 mos. Whether peeing or marking, he lifts it.

My Collie, Oz, started lifting his leg around 18 mos old. He only lifts to mark though. He squats for peeing. He's so tall, I don't think he can keep his balance for as long as it takes to pee.

My other Collie, Gull, was lifting his leg by 6 mos for short pees. Although, he doesn't lift it like you would normally see a dog do. He just casually lifts it a lil' off the ground, sort of dangling there still by his side. He's 18 mos now and still doesn't mark. For long pees though, he squats like Oz does. Again I think it's a balance thing being so tall.

Earle never did learn to lift his leg. He's 6 now. Muskwa, Earle's sire, has lifted his leg since he could stand!

Sleet, a spayed female without a dominant bone in her body, always lifts her back leg to pee!

Jack is 9 months and he has never lifted his leg to pee. Micki is 4 and he only very very seldomly lifts his leg. My female Shadow lifts her leg quite often though!

My dog Bruno never lifted his leg. He was fifteen when I put him down in 03. Finn sometimes lifts his leg, sometimes doesn't. He'll sometimes even lift his leg, and while he's peeing, it'll slowly move down and end up on the ground. Like he gets tired. Lazy dog.

Grant lifts his leg sometimes, sometimes he squats. Sadie lifts her leg to pee on garbage cans, stop signs, mailboxes, bushes, etc. I tell her people are going to think she is a boy. Maggie sometimes lifts her leg but she is so low to the ground you can't really tell. He doesn't have to lift his leg just because he's a boy.

If MAXIMUS has to actually pee, he squats. But, he marks everything he can. He suprised me by lifting his leg when he
was only a year and a half.
