I will be out of town this weekend, so I'm posting early. Pete turns 6 on Sunday. At one point, we didn't think Pete would see three so we are extra-happy to be celebrating this birthday with a happy, healthy Petey cat!
Pete was a sickly kitten who suprised everyone by thriving and growing into a beautiful orange boy.
Then just after his 2nd birthday, on December 31, 2001, he blocked for the first time. I almost lost him that night as I didn't know what was going on. Never had a blocked kitty before. I do not recommend spending New Year's Eve at the vet clinic. Not alot of fun! The blocking wouldn't stop and by April 2002, Pete had no options left except surgery. That could not be done in the Yukon so arrangements were made for Pete to fly to Saskatoon, about 3000km away. He received wonderful care at the University of Saskatchewan's vet school and three weeks later he was home. After several more weeks of recovery, he seemed to be alright.
It took another two years for the urinary tract issues and their aftermath to resolve. Pete got frequent infections, which he is still at risk of due to the PU surgery. But it's been over a year since he had to see the vet for anything related to his urinary tract. He even uses the litter box again! For a long time Pete associated the litter box with pain and prefered to use Stuart's laundry basket. They are both much happier now that that issue is resolved!
This is Pete now.
Laid back, fat & happy.
Maybe a little too laid back!
Happy birthday, my purrty boy!
