    Berry picking with Pingo...

Pingo and I went berry picking today. We were hunting for these little things:

Low bush cranberries. And we found lots of them! I filled a four litre bucket!

Pingo was a very good companion. She wandered around a bit, but mostly stayed close to me, snacked on the grass--it always tastes better when you aren't at home, and hung out. She's really hard to get a good picture of for some reason. These are some of the best I've ever got of her.

    Listening intently to the squirrels.

    Lounging about.

Looking pretty in the fall colors.

    Happy girl!

Wow! Fall colors already - and cranberries! They grow wild up thereabouts? Massachusetts has a lot of cranberry bogs on the south shore, it's the big business for some towns.

Nice Pingo pictures, thanks for sharing!

They do grow wild around here. The low bush ones grow more in my immediate area--they are on a vine-like plant and grow right on the ground. The high bush ones grow up the mountains and should be ready now too.

Pingo is beautiful. She definately needs to get over being camera shy.

Does she eat them? What a pretty girl!

There are some wild blackberries that grow near the apartment. Kia will eat them right off the bush but prefers if I pick them for her.

It sure does look like she had a good time going berry picking with you. I agree with Pat, it was that special Mom & Me adventure that she liked the most.

Pingo doesn't eat them, but Earle does. He doesn't really like the cranberries though. He prefers wild raspberries. I had a dog as a kid who would lay in our garden and eat peas right off the vine! She could even open the shells! Very aggravating to go pick peas and find nothing but empty shells!

They taste slighty tarter than commercially grown cranberries. They are sweeter once they've been hit by frost a couple times, which is why I didn't pick them last week. We had a couple below freezing nights last week so they should be sweeter now. I'm making cranberry muffins tonight so I'll know after dinner how good they are this year!
