spayed dog bleeding - what now?

I have a spayed dog who acts as though she is in heat. My male is unusually interested in her and she has a bloody discharge. What is going on? I can't get an appointment for her until Monday. What do I do now? Suggestions welcome!

Well, now that doesn't sound good. Sometimes if a dog has an extreme UTI, they can have a bloody discharge, but that doesn't sound like it's the case.

That is incredibly odd. Although she is spayed, I would go buy her a doggie-diaper JUST to be safe. When was she spayed? What I mean is: was it a rescue, private owner, etc.. or has she always been with you???

Keep them separated for now, just in case she wasn't actually spayed.

  4. I know females who are not spayed do have a bit of blood as well...I would still get it checked out though.

Maybe the vet forgot to take something out of her that was needed.

We've had her since she was 14 weeks old. She went into heat at 4 mo. old and we had her spayed shortly after that. The male is neutered so we should be ok that way. I checked this morning just to make sure I wasn't crazy - there seemed to be no blood with the urine but she is definitely emitting a bloody discharge separate from the urination. I know this vet and he is very reputable and very good. I can't imagine he would have done something wrong. I'm just puzzled beyond belief.

Well, my friends dog is doing the same ting, and I know she is spayed, there is a scar from it. She has it on and off.

The vet could have missed something. It is possible for any human being to make a mistake

It could very well be that something was left behind during the spay and she is going through a "heat". Best bet check it out with your vet.

Well, we got the vet to squeeze her in on Saturday. They didn't see any signs of blood anywhere. We're not sure where it came from but my husband and I both saw it. They did discover, though, that she has a UTI and crystals in her urine. I guess it was good to take her. The only bad part was the bill - $180! Yikes. Good thing I work 2 jobs! I love her so it was worth every penny.

We had a dog in our program that had a severe UTI and she had bloody discharge just like you're discribing. It wasn't constant or a lot, but it looked like she was in heat even though she was spayed. So that would explain your dog's bleeding.
