    can puppies have asprin?

Our rottweiler puppy Harmon "played with the big dogs"at the dog park and got a little squished. Two Newfoundlands to be exact. Anyway, she's still limping after 3 days. We have a vet appointment, but it's not until wednesday.Does anybody know if it's ok to give a puppy an over the counter pain reliever, such as asprin or ibuprophen?

Yes, Aspirin is fine for dogs. I would NOT advise giving your puppy ANY pain medication until you have talked to your vet. An overdose of aspirin could be fatal to your puppy. Aspirin, as with ALL pain meds, may not be tolerated, or it can cause an upset stomach or ulcers in dogs.

I hope your pup feels better soon. Your vet will prescribe him a pain medication, until then, restrict your pups activity.

My vet told us that it was okay for pups to have chewable baby asprin. I hope Harmon feels better soon!

    Puppy pain relief

Ibuprophen can cause kidney damage and is not recommended.

Dogs seem to be very sensitive to aspirin irritation of the stomach lining. Even bufferin has been known to cause instant nausea when given with food. Probably giving Rantidine (75 mg) 2X daily and at least 20 minutes before aspirin would solve the tummy problem. Assumption being puppy is at least 40 lbs in weight.

It will be important to get puppy examined. A large breed puppy can get some serious injuries in squash play, that may need attention.

To be a little more exact....puppies can have a half of a tablet of baby/child aspirin. Hope your little rottie feels better :-)

Well, I talked to my vet and he said it was okay to give baby aspirin. When Lucy was limping I gave her two baby aspirin once a day. If the dog is smaller I suggest using one or a half of one.

never give asprin to any dog or cat....ask you vet first. I almost lost one of my Bassett Hounds because of asprin.
