Red card for footballing dog

A dog has been banned from showing off his football tricks for Plymouth Argyle fans - in case he fouls the pitch.

Argyle wanted Jake the terrier to entertaining the fans at half-time with skills like doing 20 headers in a row.

But health and safety officials poo-pooed the Championship club's plans, report The Sun.

Argyle spokesman Rick Cowdery said: "We thought Jake would be great entertainment.

"But there were concerns he might do what all dogs do on grass and pose a risk to players."

Owner Tony Slark, 62, of St Columb, Cornwall, complained: "He's so regular there's as much chance of him messing the pitch as of Plymouth winning the European Cup."
