Neutered Male Spraying

I have a 11 year old male Tabby,
"Montanna" he is very big, about 19lbs we had him neutered when he was 6 months old, but I have the feeling he wasn't done right he still sprays. We have a backyard that is cat proof and he has fll run of it anytime he wants.. he has his perimeters he has to spray everyday.. he sometimes sprays in the house (which drives me crazy) and when he uses his litter box, he starts off sitting then ends standing, of coarse spraying the floor and wall I love this big guy to death and have just learned to clean up after him. I was wondering if anybody else has this problem with their males.. I have found though if I put "hot sauce" on places he has sprayed in the house, he dosn't spray there again.. but the sauce looks worse than the spray mark

Yep, we have two neutered male cats that we have had this experience with. Our indoor only cats tend to do this primarily when a kitty "interloper" is seen in "their" yard. One of them also suffers from chronic urinary tract problems for which he is being treated with medication.

We use "Nature's Miracle" and another deodorizing product when they spray. There is another product, but I forget the name, that is supposed to mark the area with "happy scent" (like the scent from their whisker area when they rub on a person or object which says "you are mine."). This "happy scent" is supposed to keep them from marking the area with a "distressed" scent.

If you have taken Montanna to the vet and he is well, you might try keeping him inside only and use the products above. If he doesn't smell other interlopers, he may stop marking. Also, you might try a covered litter box to keep the spray in--and keep the box sparkling clean. We haven't had a problem for quite a while.

Bloomer, Re- the starting off sitting and ends up standing. One of my male cats also does this. I have an extra large, covered litter box, and I line it with the special plastic liners you can buy before adding the kitty litter. I turn the excess plastic liner UP, around the cover so that when he sprays the plastic catches the urine.
My cats are indoor cats, and luckily he doesn't spray anywhere else!

I have a one year old indoor only male cat, Junior, who has this same problem off and on (or I should say...*I* have this problem!). He was neutered at an early age - 4 months - so he never had a chance to learn the facts of life.

When he first started it, I took him to the vet and had a urinalysis to rule out UTI. Apparently, his problem is behavioral in nature since all tests were negative twice. Our vet gave us the option of just dealing with it or trying a medication. We opted for the medication called Ovaban, which is basically a hormonal steroid-type medication. It worked! (One possible side-effect of this medication though is diabetes, so beware. The diabetes will disappear upon discontinuation of the medication though.)

Oh, BTW, I think the name of the product that someone mentioned earlier is probably Feliway. Its a pheremone-type friendly spray that discourages spraying. Its very costly though.
