Submissive Urination

Snowy has had this problem since she was a puppy, she pees when she gets excited. Its gotten better throughout the years, where now I can go into the garage to throw something away without getting a wet greeting, but it still happens. Mostly when she sees people or other dogs she hasn't seen for a while. But today she went a lot for my mom when she came down stairs.

Does anyone have any tips on what to do? The vet said there is medicine but its expensive and doesn't work well.

I am not sure of any solutions, but I am sure some other people have some ideas.

When Prince was a puppy he would urinate when he was either excited or submissive, like you said. He got over it though.

I hope that you find something that works with Snowy.

Aww,. Snowy... I've seen many doggies exhibit that type of submissive peeing. I would guess that working with her to become more self confident is the key, but easier said than done. I never heard of treating it with medication. I would try working with a trainer or perhaps behaviorist to affect some beahvior modification. Snowy sounds like a real sweetie

My lil doxie Brigette was a submissive peer too and we just accepted as part of her,, we just wiped up and grinned ... it was just part of her personality,,, its a pain ,,,, but paper towels arent THAT pricey!!!
