    Training.

    Hi,

I will be getting a puppy later this year. I know most everything there is to know about training him/her but I don't know how to teach commands like Sit Pretty or Leave It. Could anybody tell me how? Also any other Tricks like that would be very much appreciated.

    Thank you,
    Doggirl.

I taught leave it by holding a treat in hand and closing it into a fist. I used something really smelly like liver treats, ostrich hearts, hot dogs, etc. The dog usually smells it and shows interest in it. Tell them to leave it and the moment they back off, open your fist and allow them to have the treat. I used this method with Kai and I even tested him with a hamburger in front of him for 5 minutes with me out of the room.

I love my labrador! I hope you can get one, too! What color are you wanting? I trained leave it pretty much the same way binka nugget did, but, i don't think i could leave food yet in front of finn and leave the room. He's only six months old, though! Sit pretty, I did by making him sit and then placing my feet on either side of him (in the back, like by his hips) and luring him to sit up and my legs were his support. But, he is really clumsy with it, and, looks silly doing it. But, he sits up! I don't think it's pretty, but, i just tell him to sit up. It was easy to teach him.

    Thanks, Dogz!

That's cool! I want to get a Chocolate, but I'm going to Rescue so I know that getting want I want isn't always an option.
