Using bathroom rugs to potty on!

My one-year-old male cat, Sadie, likes to use the bathroom rugs as his potty. I have tried not having rugs, I even used throw rugs like in the kitchen because he doesn't use those and he still pottied on them. I then washed those rugs and used them in the kitchen to see what he would do, and he has never used them again! Please help!! I need some advice on how to STOP him, I am at a loss. I am in the process of redoing my bathroom and I have brand new rugs that I want to put in there. Also, his litter box shares my bathroom.

Rubber-backed rugs are notorious for attracting cats to pee on them (probably because of lanolin or other ingredient used in the manufacture), so if your cat has a history of this you should avoid having that type of rug.

Also if you haven't had a urinary analysis done by the vet that should be done as well.
