    Cat Noises

I posted this in another topic, but I wanted to start a new one because the other one was just about purring:

What kind of noises do your cats make?

My cat Zezu doesn't really meow much. When he wants to get through a door he'll meow. He purrs when he's cuddling or when we come home at night. He makes this really cute noise too. It's more of a sputtered cry, if that makes sense. He'll do the sputtered cry usually, if he wants something(food or something doesn't seem right(me sneaking up on him). When we take him in the car he makes a miserabley sad noise. A real cry, sounds like he's talking jibberish. poor guy. When he was mad at the vet, he hissed and snorted at him. The vet. was really nice to him, but zezu just doesn't like it there. When he is playing and gets excited he makes a funny breathing noise and snorts too.

Marius doesn't meow a lot either. Rather, he makes chirrup noises. It's really wierd because I've never heard a cat make those noises so frequently! When he does meow, it's a tiny pathetic sounding meow, and coming from a 16 pound cat, it's quite funny. Scooter, on the other hand is a talker. He's a tuxedo cat with big yellow bug out eyes. People always remark on how big and round his eyes are...(and oftentimes ask if he's permantly shocked...LOL). He certainly has a set of lungs on him...He meows and "fusses" a lot.

I could go on and on about how Boogie meows..he meows in a lot of different tones. He does a real low meow..almost like a kitten sometimes. Oh yeah, Wolflady, Boogie wares a Tux too.

Wolflady, you reminded me of another sound Zezu makes. Whenever he is glaring at the birds I have, he makes a chirping, chattering type of noise, like he's really mad at the birds. He also does this when he sees a fly or moth. He never chatters at the turtles though. He just follows them around and makes sure they aren't causeing any problems or going where they're not supposed to go.

Ben, I was about to post the same thing about Charlie! When he sits at the window looking at the birds (well, pidgeons), he makes those cute chirping noises, too. It sounds to me like he is talking to them! It's so cute.

I thought that too, thelma, at first. I thought he was trying to imitate them. Then I learned real fast that he was only chattering bad thoughts to them as he caught one of them in his mouth. Lucky for the bird, I caught the cat and pryed his jaws open and rescued the bird. The bird, Basil, is fine now.

My first cat, Saima, chirps when she's about to be fed. Chirp! chirp! chirp, chirp! I can do a pretty good imitation of it, if only you could hear me! I usually chirp back to her... Saima also "trills" when she's jumping up or down from somewhere, or when she's upset that I'm not paying attention to her. It sounds like the Spanish double-r (it's not a purr, it's more like a long gurgle), except that it comes from inside her throat. Of course, Saima also purrs loudly when she's happy and being cuddled.

My second cat, Miko, purrs relatively quietly. Like Saima, she also "trills" when she jumps up or down from somewhere. In general, she's my quiet girl. Saima is my noisy girl.

Our cat Fluffy snores. I don't mean the little wheezie sort of snore, I mean the full blown, wakes HERSELF up snoring.

Not long ago our water heater died. We'd been hearing the T&P valve spewing for a while, but thought it was Fluffy snoring, so we ignored it until we went into the kitchen and saw water on the floor.

We try not to make too much fun of her because she's so old (early teens, hard life and looks it), but when you can hear her all over the house, it's hard NOT to.

margaret, good description of that noise your cat makes. The "trill" sounds just like the noise my Marius makes all the time. I called it a chirrup, but it sounds (pardon the pun)likes it's the same kind of noise. Weird! He makes those noises when he jumps on or off things too, and when he's greeting me, and well...most of the time, which is why I found it so odd! Bless his little heart Cats are so funny...

Shiloh chirps at birds and bugs too! She only does this when she is at the window. If a bug is inside the house, she usually uses it as a soccerball. She also makes the sound wolflady was talking about when she jumps on and off things. She also has numerous distinct meows and a loud purr. Whenever she makes any sort of meow, she knows I'll come running. She has me wrapped around her little paw

My tuxedo, Bushes, does a broken meow when she's hungry. She sounds so pitiful, like she's about to cry. My tabby, Bouja doesn't meow much, she sort of trills her tongue. She has names for all of us - each very distinct! The only time she does a classic meow is when she has a ball in her mouth. Then it's really loud and very startling, mainly because it's so rare. They both chatter their teeth at the birds out the window. I can just read their evil thoughts when they do it!
