Pics from our trip to San Antonio

Michael and I went to San Antonio on a business trip for my company this weekend and had a great time, but we’re especially happy to be home and see the furkids again! I missed them so badly, and they were all I could think about the whole five hour drive home!

San Antonio is a very old Texas town with a lot of historical sites and is where the battle of the Alamo was fought, and where Texans lost the battle against Santa Anna and his men in 1836.

I thought I'd share a few pics from our tour of the Alamo and some sites that were really cool.

Here's the Alamo. Not too impressive. It was mostly a tourist trap where you had to pay for a tour and it had a tacky gift shop. We were pretty disappointed by it.

Here are the fortress walls on the outside

    And from the inside

    Now for the cool stuff!

This is the inside of San Fernando Cathedral. It's the nations oldest cathedral sanctuary.

The remains from the battle of the Alamo are here

In this tomb in the church

These are in the church also. There are so many of them and they look so small in this pic, but they are really HUGE!

    More coming...

We then visited an extremely old mission (can't remember the name ) that had not been restored and was still all original and unchanged. It’s one of the oldest missions in San Antonio and was really neat. We were given a guided tour by a very knowledgeable volunteer and really had a good time here. The wall art is original and untouched (not restored at all) other than having been cleaned of years of grime.

The outside. See the fortress wall in the lower left corner? The're were originally several hundred feet, surrounding the mission.

Only a couple of small parts of the fortress walls remain.

Here are the fresco paintings. This was done when the plaster was still wet and has remained all these years!
Above a doorway in what is believed to have been the library

    On the ceiling

All of the ceilings were low and the doorways were very short. Just enough clearance room for me and I'm only about 5'4".

We also went on a tour of homes and this one reminded me of the house on the Addams Family for some reason.

I also liked this shot of the bird in the bush.

Hope I didn't bore you all to death with my Texas history!

Heeey! and you even got a shot of two hard-working cones! What a trooper you are. lol

    Now, Micki...
you didn't pee on the Alamo and get arrested like what's-his-name didja?

Great shots! I've only been near the Alamo once but unfortunately it was raining and our band director (we were there for our spring trip) wouldn't let us out to look.

Nope, I'm not a shopper at all. I have zero interest in shopping in any way, shape, or form, no matter where I am.

I loved the old missions and our hotel was unreal. It was built in 1909 and was so ornate and luxurious.

We did have a good time, but it's so good to be home! Work tomorrow and I'm exhausted!

Wow Micki those fresco painting were amazing! It is so wonderful to go to a place and think about the paintings that have been there so long and the history behind it.

psst - I'm a history buff too, absolutely love thinking about past cultures and how they have influenced our lives today.

I am so glad I got to see these! I wish my time in Texas had been a happier one. I never got to see the Alamo or anything neat. Except for the Texas Ranger museum near Austin. That was kind of nice but visit got cut short because they lost power from a bad accident. I was near San Antonio lots because that's where the step son's mother lived. It was a small town near there that starts with a C and I can't remember what it was. I love those old church pics. Just beautiful.

I did the right thing by setting you free
But the pain is very deep.
If only I could turn back time, forever, you I'd keep.
    I miss you

I hear you whimper in your sleep
I gently pet you and say, no bad dreams
It will be alright, to my dog as dark as night.

Fur as dark as the night.
    Join me on this flight.
Paws of love that follow me.
In my heart you'll forever be.
    [/SIZE]

How I wish I could hold you near.
Turn back time to make it so.
Hug you close and never let go.
