I found this in the Earthlink magazine: www.petshelter.org has a list of cats and dogs available for adoption across the US and Canada. And if you have a pet that needs a new home, use the site's Home Finder service.

Freckles (feel a kinship with the 'Old Folks) and Nelson too.
Every furkid has their own Special qualities. I've bookmarked the site just to
keep up on developments of these scared and
lonely guys.Please God..there are better days
ahead for all of them !!!

I went to the site you mentioned and what a heart-breaking experience. I can not imagine people being so cruel to such sweet innocent creatures. I found one story about a 5lb, 1 year old chihuahua named Binky that had both his front legs broken by his former owners. He needs a lot of surgery etc. to fix him up and they are looking for donations. I will send what I can right away but it is just incomprehensivable to me that anyone could do such a horrible thing.
