    health insurance?

Hi-- Just wondering what your experiences have been with pet health insurance. I wonder if I should purchase some for my dog. I suppose we all worry about catastrophic illnesses and the high cost of vet. care. Let me know if you think this is a good idea. Thanks.

I have it and it's well worth it! Especially with a multi pet household! Here's a link Pet Insurance that has a listing of carriers by province or state. Most pet insurance companies provide you with an on line form where you can list your pets...ages, breed, health history etc. and according to how many pets and what plan you choose, they will give you a figure! Good luck!

I just checked...my pet ins. co. covers CT! Here's the link! Premier Pet Insurance

We don't have it, and two of our pets are too old to be covered, but there are many times when I wish I did.

Nothing to good for our Buddy. Actually there was an article on MSN online about this just yesterday. It said some plans are not worth it because they somehow are not cost effective. But I don't remember all the details.

The AAA newsletter this month also has a blurb about a plan they offer. Prices seemed reasonable. I should look into that also. The rates from the brochure I picked up at Petco sounded rather high though.

I have a policy with Veterinary Pet Insurance for Carina. They have several different kinds of policies. You can check the Web site at:
    www.petinsurance.com
The premiums depend on the age of the dog and several other factors.

I knwo that there are several pet insurance companies out there, but the one that I saw the most at the vet clinic was USA PEts their phone number is 1-800-872-7387 or 1-800 usa-pets, everyone i know that has it, says it the best. You can call them and they will answer any question that you might have.

I don't have pet insurance. All my animals are pretty healthy now, but I sure wish that I had it when Rosco was alive. We dubbed him the million dollar pup.

I have the Superior Plan at Vet.Pet Insurance. When Cody became ill, I really didn't care what they covered or how much it cost, but the final bill was over $800 and I got back close to that. The price went up each year, but it was (is) well worth it..you never know. Even the simpliest thing like shots, blood work, it helps alot. The first day I adopted Logan, I enrolled her. The people there are great and very caring.

Gee Karen, I didn't know you had pet insurance! You're right, in the event of a major illness, it can really be a blessing!!

    health insurance

    I opted to be self-insured.

I opened a special account at the credit union for my "insurance payments". I used the approximate amount that I would pay an insurance company and deposited that amount every month. I use it only for surgeries and specialists, things above and beyond the usual vet bills. With 4 older dogs, the insurance would be much too expensive, especially with one being a diabetic. This way I have the money when I need it, no one decides if the need is "covered", and if I never need it, I haven't lost it all.

I have insurance for my 2 GSD's and it helps. I am lucky that they don't use it often but as they get older, things could change and I'll be happy I have it. The one I use is: VPI

    Good luck!
