    Simba again.. :(

I know I said I wasn't going to post again but I'm back for a reason...

Simba, my angel has had so much trouble lately. The poor boy has been to the vet 2 times in the last few weeks. Now I we have to take him again. He has red bumps ALL on the inside of his legs, his stomach and his chest. He's been chewing and licking at them making it even more raw and red. His stomach has been growling so loud all day. He has been rubbing his butt across the floor non stop. I feel so horrible that i've been crying ever since I got home from school. I wish he could be OK for just once. He is my life. He is my best friend. I don't know how life would ever be without him. I feel so horrible. He doesn't deserve to have things wrong with him. He's the best dog in the world. I feel like it's all my fault.

He has a vet appointment in about an hour... 5:15... It seems like forever.

    I'm sorry.....just needing to vent...

I really hope Simba is okay. He is a very important part of Pet Talk (as all pets are) and I know how much he means to you. *hugs* Don't worry about it. I will send some prayers and positive thoughts that he can be treated quickly. Keep us updated, okay?

    $130 dollars later......

Dr. Mathews has no Idea what caused it. He checked for mange, and he doesn't have that.

Simba has to take 5 pills a day. 3 of one kind, and two of another kind. Dr. Mathews also gave us some more ointment for Simba's ear.

    Simba is 5 years old.

Tough day, huh KayAnn??? Good thing is there is nothing seriously wrong with Sim. I had 6 animals to care for until recently...now 5 Anyway, it seemed there wasn't one week would go by that I wasn't at the vet's with one of them for something! It got so frustrating sometimes I'd just sit and cry! Point being, when we have these furry ones in our care, there are bound to be bumps in the road. Hang in there, give Sim and Nala a hug and breathe a sigh of relief that it wasn't something serious. They got the best Mommy in the world and the love you more than life itself! Love and hugs to Sim...feel better soon, sweetie!

    hi kfamr...

I've struggled with allergies on Maddie for quite awhile and
about a year ago she started the butt scooting thing too. The
vet examined her and ruled out anal glands and other things
that I can't remember now. After discussing what she was
eating, which was at that time Purina One, he said he thought
it was a food allergy. According to him, butt scooting can be
    a symptom for food allergies.

I switched Maddie over to Z9 dog food, that the vet
recommended and I did see improvement in her itching and
butt scooting, but not 100% relief. About 3 weeks ago I
switched her to Wellness Fish and Sweet Potato, which is
specifically for allergy prone dogs. I also got the fish and
sweet potato treats for her and have been extra diligent to
make sure that's the only food that goes in her mouth. It
supposedly takes 8 weeks for all the food to completely work
its way out of the body, so when you switch you have to
make a commitment to not feed them anything else, to really
know if the food change is working.

Well 3 weeks into this I've seen a remarkable improvement.
Her skin and coat look great and I've seen no butt scooting
at all... No scratching... The only thing she's still do is licking
and chewing on her paws, but that has decreased. I'm not
completely convinced that that hasn't formed into a habit.
Still 5 more weeks to go, so maybe that'll get even better too.
    We'll see.

Anyway, you might want to try a change in Simba's food. It
won't do any harm and it just might resolve the problem.

I don't think we can afford to change Simba's food but that you for the information!

    Oh geesh! Poor Baby.
I wonder if he had an allergy reaction to something.
As Sandra stated, I am also glad Simba did
not have anything seriously wrong with him.
KayAnn you are a very good mommy.
IF it is an allergy reaction, that can be very frustrating
trying to narrow it down to what it was.

Give more hugs from me to Simba for him to feel
    better ASAP!

    Karen

I hope the medicine helps Simba feel better soon. I had a dog who ate strawberries out of our garden. She broke out in hives. First dog the vet ever met with a strawberry allergy. Maybe Simba's is just a one time allergy too.
Simba please take your medicine and feel better soon.

If he won't eat when it sounds like that, don't try to entice him to eat!! He could be having a pancreatic episode and if you entice him to eat anything, it will only be more painful for him and it can kill him! Chester has pancreatitis and had an episode yesterday. He wouldn't eat and his tummy was very LOUD and the growling just went on and on. He was distressed, but I've seen him worse off, but I'd hate to have you make the mistakes I made. I tried to entice Chester to eat during past episodes cause I didn't know what was wrong with him. He'd usually end up eating cause I'd cook him something really good (salmon, beef, etc.) and I found out that's the worst thing I could do.

Talk about feeling like a bad mother! Nothing like knowing you've permanently damaged your pup's tummy, pancreas and kidneys!

Oh, and we have major allergy problems, too. Seems like one dog can't have any more problems and then he does!

    Hope Simba feels better soon!

It actually sounds like a little birdy is in his tummy chirping. My dad said he thought there was a little kid in the house.

The doctor said it could be cause by stress. I don't force him to eat, when he doesn't finish his dinner or breakfast we put it up on the counter for Nala doesn't eat it. He tells us when he's hungry so we put the bowl back down for him.

Poor sim I know how it feels..Josie was really sick before too..she was constintly throwing up (for weeks) and the vets still don't know wht it is, but the many many pills seemed to have helped and shes fine now. I'm sure once Sim takes all his pills he'll be fine too! As for the butt rubbing thing, I'd say thats anal glands? Jo had that too..the reason she hates the vets now actually..she hated having them expressed..
