Has anyone actually read the LOTR's books?

(LOTR=Lord of the Rings) I'm just curious if anyone has actually read the books.

I like the movies but I LOVE the books. Tolkien is one of my favorite authors.

If you haven't read them you really should. They're excellent.

My major complaint about the movie is why did the ruin Faramir? He was NOT an evil person. I was sad because he was one of my favorite characters.

If you're listening to this song
You may think the chords are going wrong
    But they're not
We just wrote it like that

When you're listening late at night
You may think the band are not quite right
But they are, they just play it like that

It doesn't really matter what chords I play
What words I say or time of day it is
As it's only a Northern song

It doesn't really matter what clothes I wear
Or how I fare or if my hair is brown
When it's only a Northern song

    If you think the harmony
Is a little dark and out of key
    You're correct, there's nobody there

And I told you there's no one there

I started reading the Hobbit, but I just don't think I am interested in them. I'm gonna try and read them soon, because my dad keeps telling me they are great books, and he was disappointed when I began reading one and never finished it.

I first read the Hobbit, it took me about a month. By the time I was finished, I became interested in the story and characters. I started reading LOTR during the summer, and finished all three books in a week or so. I think that was in middle school, sometime in early 1980's

In fourth grade my teacher read us the Hobbit, but we had to skip like 3 of the middle chapters because it was so long. After we finished reading it we got the movie. Before they made LOTR they already had a Cartoon Hobbit movie, has anyone else seen it?

When I was in high school, long, long ago, JRR Tolkien was the rage! Everyone was reading his books. I haven't even seen the movies yet...on my rental list. But, I highly recommend the books; especially the Hobbitt! If you've seen the movies, you'll really love the book!

I read them all in high school, the class was assigned the Hobbit, and I read the whole Trilogy for fun. I loved the books, the characters, the depth of everything ... but didn't have high expectations for the movies, so enjoyed them, too!

We have the cartoon movie of the Hobbit...very odd but enjoyable. There is rumors of a TV series in the future.

Yes, I listened to the books on tape first (at least 10 years ago), then I read the books in middle school (around 7 or 8 years ago). My family members are Tolkien fanatics so I was brought up with his stories (LOTR & others). My middle name is named after one of his characters (Luthien), I have it tattooed in elvish around my right ankle. Here's a pic:

    Yeah... I love Tolkien

    RubyMutt, I love your tattoo!!!

I'll admit I really didn't know anything about them until I saw the first movie. Well, we read The Hobbit in 6th grade (and watched the cartoon) but that was a long time ago. I've since read all of them, and I own the set...I also own the first two movies on dvd. The books are amazing!

I've read them all (including The Hobbit) multiple times. I love the books!

My BF reads them all once a year, he's a BIG fan.
