I'm such a happy mama! We took all four dogs (plus my parents' Checkers) to a Halloween Costume Contest and Parade in a small town a little ways away for us. My mom bought Pup and Checkers ladybug and bumblebee costumes from JoAnn Fabrics, and they looked cute, but there were other dogs there with the same costumes (the problem with store-bought costumes )
But I had a idea to make Paula, Buddy and Boo into the Three Musketeers (since Pup and Checkers had a theme, I wanted the 3 greyhounds to match each other). We couldn't afford anything fancy, so I bought clearance rack red capes, plastic hats, and feathers at the party/costume store. Then I picked up some felt and fancy gold ribbon at JoAnn Fabrics. We added fleur-de-lis to the capes, and made collars and boots out of the felt. I can't sew a stitch, so I was working overtime with the glue gun last night. I was so pleased with myself that I had an idea, and saw it through, without spending a fortune, and they actually came out looking pretty nice!
And the exciting news is that, out of about 40 animals, including one cat and a half-dozen llamas, Paula, Bud, and Boo won FIRST PLACE!!!!
I was franking hoping that the prize would be a gift certificate to a pet supply store, but I'll be happy with the dinner for two at a nice restaurant!
I have always questioned my creative abilities (coming from a mother who is a craft and sewing nut), but I have a renewed confidence in myself - I feel that I will be up to the task of making kids' Halloween costumes from scratch, when that time comes!
Of course, it didn't hurt that the greyhounds are naturally elegant and eye-catching, and so well-behaved! They are perfect dogs, and I intend to always have one in my home! (And Pup is my perfect snuggle bunny!)
I took pictures, and will post them as soon as I pick them up and scan them in (gotta get myself a digital camera! )
