    A New Addition

So everyone it looks like I have found a new addition to my family. I went to the Buffalo Animal Shelter on Friday and saw the sweetest little mutt. She was cowering in the corner but with a little persuasion I had her nuzzling my hand just clamoring for pets. She is about 6 or 7 years old - looks like a GSD (with the coloring and saddle markings) but has the body size of a corgi or beagle. So needless to say, I went back on Saturday and again today. I put my application in - so as soon as it is approved (should be today according to my friend that is a volunteer there) - we will do a meet and greet with Leo and go from there. She is obviously going to take some TLC and confidence building. So expect to see some new pictures withing the next few days!!!

That's great news. Do you have any names picked out
yet? I also would love to see her picture.I'm very happy for
you & for her. I would love to know any special confidence
building tips that you know of. My pup Smokey (10 mos old) is
very sensitive to loud noises (thunder storms) and I'd like to
help him cope in any way I can. Congrats on the new furkid.

My application has been approved - so I am doing a meet and greet with Leo tomorrow 10am EST. As far as dealing with a shy dog - all I really do is make sure they know they are safe. Leo is also afraid of loud noises - so everytime he gets weirded out with loud noises - I just do the happy dance. In other words - "OH LEO - WHAT A SILLY - SILLY DOG - LETS PLAY" and then he is okay. I think he just needs to know that MOM is there for him.

I don't think they are ever going to get 100% used to thunder or fireworks - but if you can keep them distracted - it will work.

BTW - I am taking the camera with me tomorrow - so I should have pics to post

Oh I forgot to tell you - Penny Lane is the name I picked out. Don't know why - it just came to me (psysic (sp?) maybe)
