    Indy Pet Store Owner On Trial /This Time In Florida

    The trial has started here of a woman who owned & operated
    a Pet Store here in Indy. She is charged with 59 counts of animal
    neglect & faces fines of $150,000.00. There were over 150
    complaints by people who bought sick dogs from this store.
    When Animal Control went to the store they found that every
    dog there suffered from congential defects,infections and respiratory problems and were covered in their own waste.On
    investigation, officers found that one in six sold had a serious
    illiness or had died. Today in court, she had the nerve to tell
    the court that the Animal Control officers merely "came on a
    bad day". The story & links to previous articles on this case
    are here;

    I hope they hang her.

    I hope she has to sit in a cage and be sick and covered in her own waste as punishment.
    Maybe she could understand then.

    What kind of a name is that???

    As for the store's name, , Your guess is as good
    as mine. I thought it was weird too. I've been checking the
    newspaper's website today as the trial continues. Today she
    gets to make her defense against the charges.Strange how
    some people will sell their souls & consciouses for a few $$$.

    I hope the store stays shut down & she never gets a license
    to sell animals again, AND has to pay that hefty fine.

    I pray she does jail time... in a cage too small where she has to live the same life those poor animals did.

    Just another really good reason why you should never purchase a puppy from a pet store. Grrrrrrrrr.

    That's horrible! I was shocked to learn of this, but at least the woman is facing charges. Hopefully she gets the book thrown at her!

    Unfortunately, until people STOP buying animals from pet stores, stories like these will continue to surface.

    Pet stores support puppy and kitten mills. It's apalling that they are still allowed to sell live animals. In the Northeast, I don't know of any who sell cats and dogs, so hopefully the tide is turning a little.

    I never saw an update to this story on the station's website
    so I e-mailed the reporter for more info, This is his response;

    Dear Liz,

    Back in January, the owner was denied a business license by the City Controller's Office.
    Late last month, she was found guilty of violating the ordinance pertaining to the care and treatment of animals and was fined 6-thousand dollars. In addition, she was legally barred from opening another pet store in Indianapolis without first obtaining a license.
    If I can be of further help, please write.

    Sincerely, Jack Rinehart

    P.S. All of the stories and actions taken were extensively reported by myself on R-T-V-6. Keep watching.
