Dearest Nellie, you are absolutely adorable! What a beautiful ferret lady you are, color chocolate with blaze, mitts, kneepatches and bib. You're so cute with those bushy toes and that sweet face with the lovely big dark eye looking straight out at me. You have the most delightful personality, too! You inspired your dear young person to study really hard during the previous summer just to pass all her/his high school exams and get you. You came home like a kind of "present" for passing all the exams! You were stressed at first, and no wonder, after a two-day trip in a carrier! But then you settled down, and ever since then you've been really good with people. You never bite, and you love to sleep on your friend and make little groaning sounds. You also enjoy being carried in her/his arms. At playtime you're really active, and you and your ferret friend Sweeney have a whole room to play in! You've learned a good trick, how to to get up and roll, and you'll do it as long as your person gives you food!
You are unusual with your really long and soft hair!! Your person was surprised when you first arrived, because it was really irregular, some long and some short. It turned out that that was because your mom licked you way too much with her rough ferret tongue, which was much like a cat's tongue with the barbs. That's quite interesting; I never knew that about ferrets! But soon you shed that hair, and now you are like your person's "own furry pompom!" You both love each other very much, don't you. What a wonderful love-filled home you share!
Congratulations, darling Nellie, on being chosen Pet of the Day! We hope you and your dear Sweeney and young person and all your family and friends are enjoying a fine celebration, full of fun and lovies and all your favorite games and treats.
I meant," said Ipslore bitterly, "what is there in this world that truly makes living worthwhile?"
Death thought about it.
CATS, he said eventually. CATS ARE NICE.
