Chelsea has hyperthyroidism and kidney issues...what to do?

My Chelsea was just diagnosed with both hyperthyroidism and kidney disease. She is 13 years old but in good condition. My vet is recommending treating her with a lower than normal dose for the thyroid because the hyperthyroidism is actually helping to keep the kidney disease in check due to the increase in blood flow to the kidneys. I would appreciate any information... thanks!

Your vet is correct about the treatment. Those two disease often occur side by side in older kitties, but they can be balanced with careful treatment.
Did the vet talk to you about alternative treatments for hyperthyroidism?

Dear dehlers43, I don't have any information to offer, but my kitties and I are sending along prayers and good wishes and lovies and warm healing energies to dear Chelsea and you.

No she didn’t. I’m going to take her to a different vet to get a second opinion on treatment.

Your current vet is right about the treatment of both of those diseases.
Alternative treatments (other than medications) would be:
    1. Hills' Y/D diet. It is iodine restricted.
    2. Radioactive Iodine Therapy
    3. Surgery

Ask your vet about those options.

I don't know about this, but I send my best wishes for Chelsea. Hope you will find the right treatment.
