Cole has a small mast tumour

Cole had his splenectomy on April 5, 2017 and started his chemo two weeks after that. He's had great checkups ever since.

Today, Dr. Glenna found and aspirated what turned out to be a mast cell tumour from his lower lip. She said it's about 1 cm in size (or just under .4 of an inch).

No matter what his blood work says I'm going to ask my local vet to remove this ASAP. If it gets much bigger, Dr. Glenna says surgery won't help.

Please send some prayers for my boy. Thank you.

Sending lots of good thoughts to Cole and you, I hope the tumor can be removed in time.

Give him some gentle hugs from me.

Candace, I'm sorry to hear this!
I hope that Cole can have his surgery as soon as possible. The location of the tumor definitely adds urgency.

Hugs and healing thoughts to you and Cole!

He's going in for a consult tomorrow. I'm hoping he can have the surgery in early December.

I'm applying to a place to fund the surgery and the app has to be in before the surgery is done. If I can get a quote tomorrow I'll do the app ASAP.

I'm keeping my fingers crossed that everything is working out.
Does your vet offer Care Credit?

We no longer have Care Credit for pets in Canada.

The one place I am applying is ACTSS - Animal Cancer Therapy Subsidization Society. In 2017 I applied - the give a maximum of $3000. Cole, an older cat, got $2500.

There are several others - Tails of Help, Parachute for Pets, etc.

To say I am worried is an understatement. But Cole is still gurgling and trilling for his food, purring, being very much himself.

GOOD NEWS! The buffy coat came back negative, which means there are no mast cells in Cole's bloodstream. RELIEF!

Cole has his surgery tomorrow. I just found out today that I got funding from both the animal cancer fund and another fund which can be used for any kind of pet care. Cole is having surgery for the mast cell tumour and to remove a couple of diseased teeth.

The tumour will be removed first, of course, then depending on how he's doing they'll remove the teeth. He is a bit older now - 14 and a bit - and during his pre-check my vet thought his grade 3 heart murmur was a little worse. I've tried to shave a few ounces off his weight in the meantime.

Good thoughts and prayers are really appreciated for my fluffy black boy.

    Thank you.
