    How much canned pumpkin?

Even though Cole's diabetes is in remission (a recent blood curve confirmed that) he still wants to eat the other cats' food. My vet suggested using canned pumpkin or Metamucil in his food to help him feel fuller.

I used some canned pumpkin in his food today, maybe a small teaspoonful.

What's the "usual" amount? How much should I add?

    Thanks!

So happy to hear Cole's in remission! Yay!!! My Mollie is having trouble (after 1 year) getting stablized. But, when my Buddy went into remission, I remember my vet suggesting pumpkin, though I can't remember the recommended amount. (It was years and years ago.) Is Cole being maintained on Rx food (DM), or on a limited amount of "regular" food? My Buddy was maintained on dry DM. Well, hopefully someone else can chime in re: the pumpkin.

The recommendations our veterinarians give are usually between 1/2 and 1 teaspoon in every meal.
I would probably start with the smaller dose.

Yes, about a teaspoon full should be a good amount, and see how that goes!

I hope that the pumpkin is working, and Cole is not as hungry.

It seems to be working well. Cole likes it! We'll see what the scale shows in the next little while.

I generally give Casey only about a teaspoon since he's the one who gets the hairballs. Smokey gets some but not as much since he loves it so much that he easily eats it too fast and then throws it back up.
