    Anyone had experience with polyps?

Okay, it's not a pretty subject, but I had a colonoscopy yesterday. It usually takes about 20 minutes...I was in there for 1 hr and 15. The specialist speaks to each patient right after the procedure is done.

He told me that he remove 5 polyps. This in itself is no biggie as polyps are not cancerous in themselves, but some kinds can become that way.

I still had a lot of sedation in my system when he spoke to me though I was awake and could respond to him. He talked about several of them (perhaps) being pre-cancerous, and that I was to make an appointment to see him in 30 days to discuss when more tests would be done.

I thought yesterday that he meant when the next colonoscopy would be done. Maybe he still means that. But it struck me today that - maybe depending on what the polyps show - he means a possible biopsy.

I heard a good one today: "Don't believe everything you think."

But I have a feeling I am not quite in the clear yet. I never have had cancer or anything close. And I am fearful.

I would have thought that he would have said to book another c-scopy in 2 years or etc. This is my first ever, so I dunno.

I know no one here can tell me what he meant and I have to wait 30 days. But if anyone can share anything I would appreciate it.

    Thank you.

My first colonoscopy, I had 3 polyps removed. They were biopsied, they were benign. But I have to repeat the colonoscopy in 3 years, rather than the normal 10 for my age.

Call his office, and speak with someone there. Tell them you were still sedated and could not absorb everything he told you. They get these sorts of calls, you won't sound "dumb," and someone can go over it with you again.

Thanks. I have to call anyway to make the appointment. I'll ask if they can clarify why I am making it!

Worrying about it will do you far more harm than good. Relax, lots of people get the "polyps" diagnosis, far better than cancer diagnosis, and there are many kinds and stages of polyps there, so until you know more, don;t fee

Call them and ask them to clarify just what is going on. I'm sure they will be able to set your mind at ease.
