    Sky's Under The Weather

Hi everyone. My poor Sky hasn't been feeling very well so I had to take him to the vet today. He was having his coughing attacks but then they turned into sneezing attacks and his right eye would also get very runny. In the past he's had this happen and usually in a few days it would just go away. This time it just continued to get worse. He's able to eat and drink normally but he wants to hide and sleep the rest of the time. My vet was too busy today but I was able to see a different vet.

Sky had a normal temperature which is great news but he's continued to lose weight even though he's been eating well. I looked up his records and on July 6,2010 he weighed 13.6lbs, then on June 12,2011 he weighed 11.95lbs, and today he only weighed 11.12lbs. The vet wanted to do some bloodwork on him so he's getting a comp panel and also a thyroid T4 test done. He was very good when they took his blood and also very good during the entire vet visit. He's also on Clavamox 2 times a day for the next 10 days to see if this will help him. Please send some positive vibes and prayers his way that he'll feel better soon and that all of his bloodwork will come back within the normal range. He's now a senior and he's 9 years and 7 months old. Thanks so much in advance.

Poor Sky. I hope the Clavamox clears up what ever is wrong and there is nothing serious in his bloodwork.

I will keep you both in my thoughts.

Thanks everyone. After he ate his dinner and took his pill like a good boy, he's been hiding out in the cat birdhouse condo and sleeping. Hopefully I'll start noticing some improvement in him in a few days.

I hope Storm's bloodwork will show nothing serious and he will perk up and not lose any more weight. Have you tried to give him a different food?

Sending lots of positive thoughts to your handsome boy - and (((hugs))) to you!

Thanks everyone. I'm still waiting for his blood test results. My vet e-mailed me back this morning and she thinks that he has allergies so she wants to prescibe some antihistamines and nose drops for Sky. I've tried giving him nose drops in the past and this didn't work out too well. I'll continue to keep you updated when I know more.

Thanks again everyone. I have great news. Both Sky's blood work and thyroid test came back normal. The vet said that she isn't too concerned with his weight loss because he doesn't feel very boney to her. If he does continue to lose weight then more tests will need to be done. I sure hope that this won't happen. I'm going to try to gradually feed him more. If he eats too fast or too much food at once he tends to throw it back up. I may try mixing his canned and dry food together to see if this will help at all.

I stopped giving him the Clavamox because it made him not eat as well as he should. The vet said that somethimes it makes cats feel sick, vomit, or even stop eating. I picked up his antihistamine pills and drops tonight and he gets these two times a day for 7 days. He took the pill without any problems but trying to put drops in his eyes and nostrils was a bit tricky. He ate very well tonight but he still sounds congested and he's still having sneezing attacks. I hope that the new meds will kick in soon and help to clear him up. I can also take the Clavamox back but the vet told me to keep it a bit longer just in case I have to end up using it on him. Please send some positive vibes Sky's way. Thanks.

    Latest Update On Sky

Sky's doing so much better today. So far he hasn't sneezed at all this morning and I can tell he's feeling so much better. His appetite is great and I think he knows that the drops and pills are helping him because this morning he just sat there like a very good boy and he let me put drops in his eyes and nose. He also loves taking his pill in part of a chicken pill pocket. He goes back for a recheck on Sun. Feb.5th at 2pm. I hope that he'll continue to improve and do well and that he'll also be able to gain some weight. Thanks again everyone.
